Now I understand what you are asking! Translating helps

I love the google translate. What a great way to communicate with backpackers when you have tried all possible means of helping them and there is still that vague look on theirs and our faces. I think this needs to be in the favourites of all our front line computers to save time and be able to offer the help that our customers require in a more efficient manner. Great for language students also.

MASH-UPS not just POTATO and fried up VEGiE's!

i've heard the term but never really knew what it meant, so have found this interesting and had lots of fun putting in my own info. on a google map. http://maps.google.com.au/maps?q=-33.046198,151.617914&num=1&sll=-33.062815,151.594615&sspn=0.098547,0.146599&hl=en&ie=UTF8&ll=-33.046884,151.617272&spn=0.006385,0.009162&z=17

I've had a play with mashups and just sent some family members a mashup of how to get to each others homes (a distance of less than 1km just in-case they forget!)
On the kibrary side of things I can see this as a very useful tool especially for our local history, cemeteries and tourism.

Google Docs and Zamzar

I have been using Google Docs for most of this year after being shown the benefits by a work mate. Found the docs extremely useful when I'd work on a document from home and then be able to access it from work or wherever I happened to be. Something else we did was use it as a quick way to collaborate on a document together if some staff were working in different locations. Since then also discovered etherpad that gives you the freedom to chat on the sidebar as well.

Zamzar is great and I have now added it to my favourites. We are asked so often (or given documents in the wrong format) and up until now have struggled changing them. I wish I'd known about this last year when my kids were forever wanting to change formats etc. so they would be able to present things in class!! Hopefully we will look smart next time someone comes to the library wanting to open a document and we can actually do it.=!!!
